RESIDENTS ASKED TO COMMENT ON NEW PLANNING FRAMEWORK

23 January 2010

Wirral residents are being consulted on a new planning framework.  This new document, currently being prepared and known as the "Core Strategy", decides where new development will take place between now and 2021.  The Council is consulting on what might be included within this document by looking at a number of options for the future.  They want you to have a look at the options and to give them your comments.

The first draft of the document you can read is called the "Spatial Options Report".  You can view this document by going to http://wirral-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal

Once there, you will have to register (this is free) to be able to make your comments known.  There are also a phone number and email address to ask for help reading/downloading the document or commenting on it if you need it.

We have already studied the document to see how it affects New Ferry.  We are concerned that the steady and continuing decline of our district centre is recorded, and that it is now to be downgraded from being being a "district" or "town centre" to being a "local centre".  Without significant investment, New Ferry's district centre will continue to shrink, with more shops closing.  We remain concerned that not enough is being done to reverse this decline.

Please read the document document yourself to form your own opinion.

Comments are required by 5pm on Friday 5th March 2010.
