planning application has been submitted to Wirral Borough Council to
extend the Cleveland Arms public house into the two shops at 33-35
Bebington Road. The aim is to create a new, larger drinking
establishment that will include a much larger bar and extensive lounge
space, with an outdoor beer garden to the rear and a childrens play
space beyond on the piece of unused land in the far corner of the
Woodhead Street car park.
Cleveland Arms has been closed for some time, but if this scheme is
approved, the extension will obviously see this drinking establishment
application raises a few questions for New Ferry:
New Ferry really need/have the capacity for another drinking
New Ferry be losing two of its shop units which could, at some
stage, hopefully be used as shops now and in the future?
On the other
hand, do you welcome these suggested changes that at least make use of
two buildings in the district centre (albeit shops) and return the empty
pub to use?
