OFFERS FROM WIRRAL BOROUGH COUNCIL
23 December 2011
Wirral residents an even greater incentive to make it a ‘New Year, New
You’, Wirral Council has revealed details of a number of special offers
for residents at local leisure centres, including The Oval in Bebington.
The ‘Try Before You Buy’ offer allows people thinking about joining a
gym to come along and check out the full range of facilities available
at Wirral leisure centres before committing to a membership.
A free seven-day trial is available by downloading a voucher from
the Wirral Council website which entitles anyone who isn't already a
member of the Invigor8 scheme to go along to their local centre, have a
look around, try classes and activities and build up their confidence to
take that first step to getting active.
Another promotion for early 2012 is an amazing offer of 10 adult
swimming lessons for just £10 – that represents a saving of £45 on the
regular price of swimming lessons. Classes take place in most Wirral
pools, with the times available to view on the
website. To book, people can either take a voucher into their
local centre and claim their discount when booking, or they can call the
booking line on 0151 606 2010.
Already, competent swimmers are being targeted in a further promotion for
January. They could benefit from a £2 discount on any water-based
exercise class at one of Wirral’s leisure centres. To book a class,
again people can either take a voucher into their local centre and claim
their discount when booking, or they can call the booking line on 0151

Women-only cycle sessions are a
Wirral Council is supporting a brand new initiative in 2012 to get more
local women back onto their bikes for fun and fitness.
Breeze bike rides, which begin in West Kirby in January, are an easy way
for women to take up the activity again accompanied by other people in
the same position.
The rides will be challenging, but do-able, and will avoid traffic
wherever possible. And there will always be a stop at a local café
en-route to recharge the batteries and have a chat with other cyclists.
The Breeze sessions are being co-ordinated in Wirral by Fiona Hanik, the
Council’s Active Families Development Officer, and she is supported by a
small team of Breeze champions to help her develop the scheme.
Fiona says: “Breeze bike rides are fun, local and flexible sessions just
for women. Far more men than women ride bikes and we want to change
that. Riding a bike is easy; it’s fun and great for fitness too.
“If you’re interested
got a bike or would like some training – I can help put you in touch
with bike hire and support. I’d encourage women to get in touch and
remember the fun of bike riding!
Cllr. Chris Meaden, Wirral Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure
and Tourism, added: “We are always looking for new ways to encourage
people to get active and the Breeze bike rides are another example of
that. There’s no reason why cycling should be a male preserve – I hope
lots of local women sign up and enjoy these new sessions.”
