One of the
questions often asked is why New Ferry's Christmas Lights have not been
seen for a number of years.
Borough Council has NOT supplied or organised Christmas Lights for
several years; this became the responsibility of the various
communities. NFRAG successfully applied for funding to purchase
the lights and to put them and take them down several years ago, but to
do this each year takes a little time and organising. It also required a
little bit of involvement from the community and businesses, the latter
who were asked for a small contribution.
NFRAG committee members involved in organising the lights each year were
no longer able to do so (for personal reasons), the remaining committee
members were so busy with other aspects of the community's needs that
they could not commit to the time needed to make the annual applications
and organising the inevitable repairs to the lights that are needed each
year with local electricians.
very much like to see the lights go up again, but for this to happen we
really need someone to organise it. Obtaining the necessary
funding is not a problem - we can give full support doing this - but
where we need help is organising the annual testing, repairing, and then
using the funding to get the lights put up in November and taken down
again at the end of January.
currently stands, August is probably too late to organise the lights for
2012, but we may be able to reintroduce them for 2013.
