news for New Ferry's district centre became apparent yesterday when
staff at Ethel Austin shut up shop for the last time.
The store had survived the liquidation of the original Ethel Austin
company back in 2008. During several buy-outs, miraculously, the
New Ferry store continued to trade. It was most recently saved
(for the fifth time) by the last buyer of the company, Ricli Ltd, who
acquired the last 32 of the clothing stores in July 2012.
time, however, the stores have struggled to repair the confidence of
shoppers, and - faced with extremely difficult trading conditions in the
current continuing recession - it now appears that the company has given
up on its New Ferry store.
understood the loyal staff had not been paid any wages during December.
The New Ferry community would like to wish them well for all they have
done to try to save the store over the last 5 years, and we hope they
all find new employment as soon as possible.
